24-year-old Nicole Seah, an executive with advertising agency Starcom MediaVest Group, will also be the youngest candidate so far, set up her Facebook page just a week ago. Only Nicole Seah and Mr. Yeo are, however, active on the social networking site used by one in two Singaporeans. Facebook is particularly popular in the wealthy Southeast Asian city-state where there are an estimated 2.5 to 3 million users in a population of 5.1 million, according to industry estimates.

Nicole Seah made her first public appearance at the National Solidarity Party’s (NSP) walkabout at Aljunied Avenue 2 on Sunday. It is also said that Seah is already the city-state’s second-most “liked” politician on Facebook. “This is a watershed election for social media, and how this will translate into votes is anybody’s guess”, said Nicole Seah when asked whether she thought online popularity translates into votes. According to a Facebook poll that compared the two individuals, users overwhelmingly voted for Ms. Seah ahead of Ms. Tin. The potential candidate is 27-year-old business consultant Tin Pei Ling, who will be the youngest woman candidate in recent history, and the youngest since former Speaker Tan Soo Khoon was fielded in 1976, also at age 27.
