I'm just burnin' doin' the Merom Dance!

Sing it with me, now! :D

Regardless of what happens on the 7th, I'm ordering a MBP. Though, things look like they're shaping up for that! Apple would be nuts not to put that chip in the MBP now that it's shipping.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Can't wait....
I know the odds are riseing for merom MBPs at WWDC, but anyone have opinions on a new enclosure for them at WWDC?

    WRONG.

The LG Prada was announced in September 6 months ahead of iPhone1 announcement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_Prada_%28KE850%29).

Odd, the link you included in your argument states the Prada was "announced" on December 12, 2006.

The iPhone was announced on January 9, less than one month later.

And the Prada looks more like a BlackBerry than an iPhone to me. The Prada and iPhone are almost nothing alike, aside from the size and shape of the earhole.

Simple...it's NOT gonna happen anytime soon.

The Tablet market is a sad failure, as it represents a tech in search of a purpose...nobody needs or wants it.

Hint? Think Origami, one among too many MS failures...just like the Zune in the next months.

Apple will NOT enter the fabled Tablet market again, as the focus of demand is on notebooks, nothing else...yet another borndead rumor.

God I'm so sick of people making this excuse. So just because no one else has found the right formula it means that Apple can't right?

Have you ever used a tablet before? If not you are missing out. The experience feels much more personal for some reason. It feels like a platform that is begging for Apple to do something with it.

PS- Let me guess you were one of those people screeching that Apple would NEVER go Intel. Would never release an iPod with photo capabilities or video. Would never allow Windows to run on a Mac.

Lol. I totally forgot about the origami. What a flop!

Its running a slightly modified version of Windows. What did you expect? Anyone who comes out with a tablet needs to do more then slap their OS on it. there needs to be a fundimental shift in HOW you interact with the OS.

I'll be buying that phone as my first iDevice :)

I just upgraded to a (2011) 13" MBP and I'm still trying to get a 32 GB iPad 2 (Wi-Fi only) as my first iOS device. I'm giving my old (2010) 13" MBP to a friend.

But later this year, when my mortgage is paid off, I might spring for my first iPhone (although i'm still concerned the small screen may be unmanageable for me... due to vision issues which may, or may not, be resolved later this year).

Also, when my mortgage is paid off, I'll consider getting a MobileMe account and next year perhaps a 128 GB iPad 3 (Wi-Fi + LTE/G3 GSM). If I get that iPad 3, I'll give my old iPad 2 to a friend.

But all this is a matter of treating myself to toys that I do not really need. First I need to focus on financial fundamentals like paying off my mortgage.

Mobileme is certainly worth more than free. Apple doesn't scrape your emails and other data to target adds at you a la Google.

Well, maybe they will make it free and they will make it exactly like Google.
    Have you thought about that?

Listen my children. Take a Sony PSP. Chop off the two ends with the game controls, leaving just the screen. This is the form factor. Remove the Sony drive put in a hard disk and infrared port and touch sensitivity. Leave the WiFi, removable rechargable battery, USB 2, headphone.

This is pocketable. It runs OSX. It is 'the' video iPod. It is a smart remote. It is an Apple Remote Desktop device that can control ANY Mac over WiFi or the Internet from anywhere.

Now add quad GSM and you have the Apple iPhone. I'm tellin' ya. $500.

And, Apple becomes a cellular carrier using that huge enormous data center they just bought. The phone works on any carrier but with Apple yoiu get all you can eat high speed Internet, perfect iSync, music/video downloads/purchase, ARD and so on.

The best option is to cover both ends.

    Free

    Syncing
    Contacts, Calendar, Bookmarks
    Small iDisk
    Find my iDevice
    Web Gallery
    Web Page

    Paid

    iTunes Cloud (Lala music streaming)
    More Sync options
Larger iDisk Pro (Dropbox like speed)
    Larger Web space and Gallery
    Online Backup
    iWork.com Pro (Collaboration and editing)

I'm ready to go Google Free. I just need to know Mobileme is worth investing in more.

Exactly, if Mobile me was a free service, it would be severely limited to what is currently on offer, and I doubt Apple would even begin to offer all the features for free, they'd still want people to pay a premium.

The fall release would reportedly also coincide with the release of a third-generation iPad (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/09/ipad-3-to-arrive-this-september/)

iPad 3 this fall? I thought it was next month? iPad 4 this fall and iPad 5 for Xmas would make more sense to me...

If Apple starts playing that game they will loose credibility, customers would be kind of lost. One breakthrough per year is good...no more and for sure no less.

The iPhone 4 is already dated relative to other phones on the market. To have a phone on the market for 18 months without an update is insane.

Why because it doesn't have a dual core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 3D screen with 5G radio?

jokes aside, this is terrible. too long of a wait.
and apple better not skimp my 4th gen touch on features, i want FULL iOS 5 support.

Every time Apple has demoed a new version of iOS it has been on the current hardware prior to the release of new hardware.

I use Sophos. And it is awesome, easy to use, and would recommend it to everyone, including their pure message mail sanitizing program. Best on the Market, especially when used with a Barracuda Firewall.

Now My VPN policy for ALL users, is when they sign on to the VPN they have a host check that verifies

    1. Anti Virus Software is installed

    2. The Machine signing in has been scanned for viruses within the last 3 days prior to sign in.

    3. The AV software is updated with the latest updates.

If all 3 pass, (plus their RSA Key and their Digital Certificate) then they can sign in,

If not, they go to download it.

This is just common sense in my opinion, and good practice for those of us that are short staffed and need to protect our network resources.

    Image (http://images.macrumors.com/article/2011/04/23/171415-background.jpg)

A finding earlier this month (http://osxdaily.com/2011/04/02/new-mt-fuji-wallpaper-in-mac-os-x-lion-developer-preview-2/) by OSXDaily has generated some speculation about Apple's plans for "Retina" display Macs. The Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 released in late March (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/30/apple-releases-mac-os-x-lion-developer-preview-2/) included an ultra-high resolution version of the background desktop image at a resolution of 3200x2000. A few observers noted (http://punchingin.com/chasing-the-6-4-megapixel-unicorn/) that this is higher than any Apple display has ever supported, generating speculation (http://theelaborated.net/blog/2011/4/13/consider-the-retina-display.html) that Apple is preparing for "Retina" display Macs in the near future.

We had previously reported (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/24/mac-os-x-lion-building-in-support-for-super-high-resolution-retina-monitors/) that Mac OS X Lion has made some under-the-hood changes opening the door to such super-high resolution displays. Now, MacMagazine.com.br has found (http://macmagazine.com.br/2011/04/23/macs-com-telas-retina-nao-sao-duvida-quando-eles-chegarao-sim-ainda-e-uma-incognita/) that Apple is already starting to include other super high resolution artwork in Lion. They found several icons stored as 1024x1024 sizes, up from a previous maximum of 512x512.

    Image (http://images.macrumors.com/article/2011/04/23/171147-23-lion_appstore.png)

    Click for full-size

Of course, this support for super high resolution displays is only the first step, but suggests Apple is planning ahead when the hardware becomes available.

Article Link: Apple Including Ultra High Resolution Artwork in Lion for Possible Retina Displays? (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/23/apple-including-ultra-high-resolution-artwork-in-lion-for-possible-retina-displays/)

Oh please. Give me a break! Do you nitwits HONESTLY think there will be retina display Macs in the near future? It's total BS. If they did, the cost of said Macs would be prohibitive to the general public. Why do you think there aren't retina display iPads? IT'S TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE! C'mon guys...you're beginning to sound like CNET

This update is not good enough, apple. Do more.

8 megapixel camera with 1080P recording.
    64GB option
    Dual core processor

Those updates are not good enough for a device that gets an update only once a year.

    Not enough.

I am going to buy white iphone 4 for 99 dollars or 49 dollars this summer and skip the iPhone 5 on paying 199 dollars.

    Glad to read about Mac.
No so happy to read about the lack of iPhone hardware till possibly Sept . I think if their going to wait until September, then we really need to consider the possibility of an LTE iPhone.

Considering Steve said "2011 was the year of the iPad" he could be right by having it be Apple's Fiscal Year 2011. Then introduce the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 both with LTE and other enhancements in September ready for a Holiday buying frenzy. Of course introducing two blockbuster products would definitely stretch production capabilities and lines 6 blocks long waiting to get ones hands on one.

So how is that much different from them releasing new iPads 11 months later... like they just did? All the iPads in use didn't suddenly stop working.

Like I said earlier... If they are released right away in the school year, the other students and staff would be in an uproar because they would say we should have seen this coming and blah blah blah, we should have waited until the start of the year :V

11 months later gives us a greater reason to have bought them this year. I know they won't stop working, but they (staff and other students) only want the newest and best..

Is Lion available to iOS developers as well? Or is it solely for those with paid memberships to the "Mac Developer Program"?

Only for paid membership to Mac Developer Program.

Really? So we just disregard the ACTUAL start and end times of seasons now? June 21 to Sept 21 is summer.

The "actual start dates"? Season start and end dates have changed over time and cultures. The solstices used ro be Midsummer's Day and Midwinter's Day, not the start of Summer and the start of Winter.

OMG... Sources close to it says, Iphone5 coming. Faster processor.

Really? Wait. I'll close my eyes and wave my hand and say it'll have a nice screen with it. Might be bigger. But not decided yet. Oh... And it'll look nice! And not too different so to scare away people who likes things the same.... *sigh*

Seriously, I hope they release it soon. It'll need to have at least 64GB of space so I can finally get rid of my ipod.

Make it LARGER. Just a little. Give it a 4in screen. Oh and look... Now you have room for that larger battery and bigger CPU and camera.

I BET you if Apple released two TOP END models.

    1) Same form factor. But with new CPU only. and 32gb memory to keep the same form factor.

    and

    2) Another with the same CPU but with 4in screen, larger battery, better camera, and 64gb memory. Of course a bit heavier.

I bet #2 would sell 3:1... Those who is willing to pay that high price of the 32GB model would be the same group of people willing to get the extras. If not for the screen size, then for the battery or better camera. Would I pay $150 more? Yes.

Here's the kicker. That would make it $450. That's slightly less than an unlocked Android that has most of those features NOW. Not 5 MONTHS from now. Granted, it's no iOS system. But it works.

Not that "I like things the same", but I do like the size of the iPhone. I have no desire to have a larger iPhone or any smart phone.

Also, I have to agree with the other poster, Apples not going to mess with the screen size if it requires developers to rewrite Apps to be compatible. It's just not worth it.

If you only buy products based on who has the most check marks on their feature list or hardware spec, don't buy an iPhone, and don't buy a Mac. That's not what Apple is all about. Besides... the iPhone4 has an amazing screen now. So much better than others. The way I look at it is, "screen solved" move on to other features that are more important. More RAM, more storage options, continued better battery (although the current battery life is great for me and I use my phone all day long), and things such as this.

You know, within a couple years all the smart phones will all have about the same hardware specs... only so much you can put in there, or even need to put in there. So what will differentiate them them? How well they work, the depth of the content and how well they're supported. Features often overlooked on the spec sheet.

If the next gen isn't released this summer, I'll probably be going with the bionic. I'd like an iPhone, but I'll need whatever I get in July, and there's no way I'm signing a 2 year contract with a phone that's already a year old.

Not sure what everybody is so worried about, I'm sure the phone needs to track some kind of historical information to give an accurate position. As long as accurate positioning information is not sent to Apple, is there really a problem?
