Umm guys? OS X already runs on ARM. It's called iOS. The developer tools to create this from standard obj-c already exist in Xcode.
Retiring or updating certain legacy API would be pretty easy (with a 3-5 yr time span) to make Xcode easily compile fat binaries that run on either architecture.
Also, what does apple pay for 1k ARM CPU bs intel? Far, far less. This would give apple a very competitive price advantage.
An ARM MacBook air for example could run 100% cool for a very long time.
Finally, heavy utilization of grand central dispatch and open cl (which modern apps like final cut pro x support) could even do all this with adequate performance.
I think the rumor source is making stuff up, but this isn't as far fetched as it sounds and actually fits with apples strategy. Don't be so fast to knock it.

I would go for an Apple phone if they are as easy to use and featurepacked as a sony erriccson, but with that special apple-y goodness like a wifi voip mode or ichat voice and video hook up or something.
That really would be very very cool.

There are several streaming and file store apps in app store...
Yup...This is just a business decision by Amazon. Most likely because they did not want to delay rollout developing an iOS app, when they expect Apple to offer a competitor really soon anyways.
The real question is how long before Amazon starts manufacturing dirt cheap Android phones themselves.

Don't get me wrong.. I'm excited for Lion. But I don't want a ton of iOS in my Mac OS.
I don't care what you want. Apple decides that.

yes it is.
Anyway, you don't need an email address, just an account (username/password).
No its not, go here:
https://myinfo.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyInfo.woa
Login with your current appleid, click apple id and change it to whatever you like. If you, like me, had a separate itunes and mobileme account you can change you emailadres here aswell to the mobilme-email account. Now you get your itunes mail on your mobileme :)

Please recheck your math and research on how many carriers the iPhone is available WORLDWIDE - you know, the world is bigger than just the US - and all those carriers worldwide are not allowed to put any crap on it or modify it in a way that makes maintaining updates too expensive. Every iPhone User worldwide can update the same day.
I travel internationally weekly, and EVERY international iPhone carrier is bound by their arms and legs just like AT&T. It's Apple's way or no way. Want to advertise iPhone? MUST be Apple's advertisements. Want to offer iPhone? Must include visual voicemail as Apple wants it. Want to sell iPhone? Must be at Apple's prices with apple's terms.
Want to break the contract with Apple? Must turn over your first born child. It's the same story in every country. I am very well traveled, and I'm very familiar with iPhone in other countries. I bought both mine in the UK, FYI

The latest iPod firmware has references to phone signal strength etc.
Apple purchased a very large data center capable of uplink/downlink communications a few months ago.
http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1557
Oppenheimer alluded to Apple working on a cell phone in the Q3 conference call.
I'd say the evidence is there for a "type" of cell phone coming soon from Apple.

Sounds like they're talking about one of their GPS devices, but its probably the same.
I live in Vermont, which is even colder, and leave my car kit in the car overnight; FWIW it's probably gotten colder than -4F and it still works fine.

It's: "Do not buy iPhone. Go with Android." That's how I see it. Companies like Toyota will have no choice but to double their efforts in serving Android users.
0 x 2 = 0
Something tells me "jail broken community" grossly overstates the size of this segment of the population.
Mega corporation A asks Mega corporation T to stop messing with a key product outside the terms of use and Mega corporation T is more interested in having good ongoing relations with a potential major technology partner than it is in five anti-conformist iconoclasts. File this in not really news.
QFT.
Silly people. No one OWNS an iPhone. They own the right to use the iPhone. Welcome to the new world where buying a product does not mean that you can do what you want with it. You can only do what the manufacturers say you can do with it.
Sarcasm online is fun. But you do realize this is correct for software or other media, and not true for hardware. Right?

Apple's problem is that they put "Looks" before performance.
They crippled their chances of ever becoming a serious competitor to the PC for games due to deciding to use giant laptops on a stand which meant they could not cool any decent graphics cards, handing the gaming crown to the PC for years on a plate.
As for the future who knows.
The don't have a problem.
Did you read the last quarter results?
They didn't cripple their chances. They decided not to be in that field in the beginning.
When they decide to get into gaming for real (not dabbling like now), they will do a good job(s)!
As the previous poster wrote: Mobile game is where it's at!
Apple will do well in that with the ipad!

How long did Apple spend announcing the iPhone 3GS at WWDC in 2009? It was about 15 minutes at most. If the next iPhone is only a slight bump like the 3GS was then that's all the time and attention that needs to be given to it.

I'll let you know when I take a call on it. This is really the first day I have had it. I do not have the TomTom kit plugged into my car's stereo so navigation comes through the speaker of the TomTom kit. What I can remember from the user manual (I don't have it with me at the moment), even when the TomTom kit is plugged into your car's stereo via an auxilary cable, calls and navigation instructions will still come from the TomTom kit and not the car stereo. I currently have no way of checking because my car does not have that input in its stereo.
As far as visibility on the windshield...it's going to vary on what type of car you drive and where you place it. I'm assuming you have never had a GPS unit in your car. It takes up just as much space as most other GPS devices.
I have a Garmin in our coupe, but the Garmin's screen is obviously bigger than the iPhone's. We had it mounted on the windshield for some time before the suction wore off, to which we ended up getting the sand bag platform which is working out fine.
We decided not to get the Navi package in the new sedan so I'm debating my options for getting one. Basically, I'm deciding between just getting a nice stand alone GPS on Black Friday or getting the TomTom kit.
My concern isn't so much the space taken up by the kit. My concerns before committing to make a purchase are:
- Will I be able to view the navigation maps and instructions with the same visibility as I would with a standalone GPS?
- Will I be able to hear the turn-by-turn instructions with the same audibility as a standalone?
- Will people be able to hear me (and be heard) with the same, or comparable, clarity as if I were using a built-in bluetooth car system?
EDIT: Ticman actually brings up a great point also with the wires. Maybe the dashboard mount is the way to go. Which leaves the only concern left being clarify of calls.

I'm holding off for the new MBP because from what I've seen, the current ones still have issues. It was Apple's first Mac to go to Intel, and although they've made some changes, it's still "first generation". I'm hoping the next revision will have more than just a processor upgrade.
.
Dude, they have made numerous fixes under the hood and revisions.
just not changes to the configuration.

That's crazy - I just found that site recently when searching for a potential hire... Found the dude's address, parents' name, the fact he had a sister, and how much his house was worth. First listing in Google results, too. And I don't even have an account with it. That was the free information...

But I don't think companies should be able to copyright overall aesthetic choices unless the two products are basically identical looking and intended to be sold as cheap knockoffs.
And the Samsung phones are not cheap knock offs, they're actually probably the best andriod phones on the market.
So I think this lawsuit is ******** and hope Apple gets laughed out of court.

No, $20 a year. The "buy a song" promo is a one-time offer. After the year, it drops back to 5GB free.
Less than half the price of Dropbox, much much cheaper than iDisk.
Online storage doesn't get much cheaper - but if you don't want to spend the money then don't buy it.
