Umm guys? OS X already runs on ARM. It's called iOS. The developer tools to create this from standard obj-c already exist in Xcode.
Retiring or updating certain legacy API would be pretty easy (with a 3-5 yr time span) to make Xcode easily compile fat binaries that run on either architecture.
Also, what does apple pay for 1k ARM CPU bs intel? Far, far less. This would give apple a very competitive price advantage.
An ARM MacBook air for example could run 100% cool for a very long time.
Finally, heavy utilization of grand central dispatch and open cl (which modern apps like final cut pro x support) could even do all this with adequate performance.
I think the rumor source is making stuff up, but this isn't as far fetched as it sounds and actually fits with apples strategy. Don't be so fast to knock it.

That's not really true of the SZ series either. The SZ ranges from 0.9 to 1.33" or so, and the drive area is in the thin part of it at the front with many things moved up into the thinker area.
If you can find the specs for the different drive mechanisms and compare them to the case designs you should find your answer (note the MBP uses a slot loading drive not a tray system).

I'm excited but... :( I kind of want to wait for the 800 Mhz FSB that will most likely come out next year. if it comes with a new case with the macbook styled keyboard ill snatch it up. :p

Only if you choose to "sync" your data in the preferences as was stated before in this thread so in fact iDisk out of the box does "not" work like Drop Box. I think WebDAV may be a speed culprit as well but if anyone knows of a blazing fast WebDAV service chime in.
I would say thats bit trivial since if you don't need to watch for amount data transfer the logical choice is "Automatic". If you pay for according to transfer or if there are limitations on it (tethering with some service providers etc.) you would then be better off with the "Manual" option. In any case you are always working with local files which are sitting in you local HD. Even if you have chosen "Manual" and then sync the transfer happens in the background. Anyway, you're correct that WebDAV is what really sets these apart (and not in the good way from Apple's perspective). Also I'm betting my money on low number of data centers and lack of spread (due to global variations in transfer speeds).

In its current form iDisk is far from being snappy™ but what happens when the masses start rolling in? One gigantic data center means very little in global perspective. You need wide spread of them all around the world if you want to offer free and reliable cloud services. Just looking at Google data centers in 2008 gives good idea what was required back then... I'm well aware that Google is a different kind of beast but it's a beast with good access and response.

This is where Apple is headed and boy do I like that fact :)
A few of my friends just don't get it until they see what I'm talking about. Example, my friend swore his 32" 1080p HDTV gave him all this 'real estate' until I showed him the 27" iMac.
I hope there's higher resolutions coming.

This is good news for future Macbook owners. I'm interested in when the iMac will get Conroe. A friend of mine is switching from Windows and wants the iMac but is waiting for Conroe in the iMac. I only hope they go with the desktop processor in the iMac and not Merom since he's not interested in the mobile processor in his desktop.
Why would they give the Macbook that but leave the iMac with the original Core Duo? Doesn't make sense. I would think all three would get it or just the Macbook Pro.
Well, hopefully the iMac will be updated sooner than the portables. Conroe is out and available in quantities now where as Merom won't be as available in quantities until the end of this month.

Excellent. Now it's time to wait for the sub-$2000 "Pro" desktop announcement. There's a suspicious gap in their lineup. Mac Pro Cube (http://macprocube.com), perhaps?

I've been sitting on a **** windows mobile phone for about 2 years & decided to upgrade about 3 months ago & decided to wait for iphone5.
I buy macbooks & I'm not a mid / late cycle buyer & don't mind waiting for something good.
However Apple lost my custom today. All these stories about putting the release date back and rumors about a 'small' update.....

Android is a free OS piggybacking on multiple 3rd party hardware. So it just makes sense that the adoption of Android is high. But break down the individual players. No, look at the balance sheets and then talk trash.

I think Steve is outright lying about this.. I don't think most people aren't fond of this, including myself..
My opinion is that he's probably not lying. He's parsing his words in his usual terse style. Steve is not denying the existence of a record of each user's location. He's denying the accusation that Apple uses this information to track individual users. He's implying that it's being used for some other purpose.

I think some of you read the story close enough to know that it isn't the battery that is produced in this factory in Japan, but an important component of the battery; a special flexible polymer film.
Secondly, the factory is intact, it is the port that brings in chemicals and ships out finished goods that is damaged.
It is a classical example of, "For the want of a nail, the shoe was lost...etc."
The quick solution might be to use a different port and ship to and from the new port by rail...or to ship in and out by air.
Finally, I suspect that the reason the iPod is listed as being affected and not iPhones and iPads is that whatever materials are available in short supply are being diverted to support iPhones and iPads at the expense of the iPods, which do not contribute as well to the projected bottom line.

Flat taxes are always very regressive, basically the reason why this is a bad idea, is that the people it effects are mostly the ones who can't afford it. and the rich will just sit on their money and not spend a lot and not benefit the economy.
And for the poorer people it would create more reliance on social security and medicare, because now what little money they used to have to save has been taken in the massive tax hike they would just get.
I'm not saying that we don't need reform of our tax system, but a flat tax isn't the way to do it.

OK. Call me naive; but it seems the privacy war was lost a long time ago... there is apparently much money to be made by reenacting the battle;
consider the logistics of tracking, storing, and sorting through, what is it 120 million, consolidated.db files. Why. Yes, we are talking about small computer files that may just take minutes to sort through, but who cares what I do? I can assure you that in the grand scheme of things my life is meaningless and so are my consolidated.db files...

I think the reason tablets have failed is that they haven't got their own identity... people want it to do what their laptop does but without a keyboard. Of course, as you say, that means the writing interface has to be foolproof.
If Apple can identify or create a new market, it could be very interesting.
More the other way arround, no one has marketed a tablet at the right people.
I mean how many ads or images do you see with spreadsheets, when the main target of a tablet would surely be Creative types, or school kids. or as web machine.

To me perfect size would be A5 (about 8inch wide screen) but high res like 300 dpi. This is the same size as the biggest selling sketch pad size.
Then again if you use the screen casting in iChat then each tablet in the house could run it's own low power apps, say dashcode apps, front row, iChat, then hook into a more powerful machine to run fullblow applications.

As for the camera discussion... No one has thought that maybe they would make it an option, like glossy / no glossy on the mac book. When you add to cart camera would be defult (as in the apple stores) and then a drop down menu would allow you to take it off

I can't believe your BlueAnt is working for you. Yes my phone is a 3Gs. I had other replies to an earlier post that indicated that Apple did not allow some of the BT technology to work on their phone.
I will try and "pair" again to iPhone and see if it works. I agree with you re hitting a button on the visor.
I've had no issues with the BluAnt at all. That said, Voice Control occasionally comes up with some pretty funny ways that it pronounces names, and you have to pronounce it that way if you want that particular name to come up.

I would love to see an ultra high-res display sold by Apple. If they sold a 4K display for 2 grand I would certainly bite. Couple an awesome 4K display with 2 next gen video cards and you have yourself the best gaming machine ever built.
I can't wait. :D

All this buzz is going to leave a lot of people disappointed since this is a new display model and nothing more. People do not sit a few inches from they computer monitor, they sit at a distance where you can barely notice the pixels on screen. Some screen have a poor quality compared to others and I know I have seen TN, PVA and IPS screens over my lifetime. I would prefer a 30" replacement matte LED as I am presently in the market for one.
I can't wait. :D
